A HEAVILY pregnant woman was left with serious injuries after a hit-and-run in Leicester overnight.
The woman, in her 40s, was cycling when she was hit by what is believed to have been a white van about 9.30pm on Monday.
She was rushed to Leicester Royal Infirmary where she remains in a serious condition.
Police said she had been on Aylestone Road, near the junction with Park Hill Drive, when she was hit – with the van leaving the scene.
Detective Sergeant Paul Hawkins said: “This is a serious collision which has left a heavily pregnant woman in hospital with serious injuries and in which the driver involved has failed to stop.
“We are extremely concerned for the woman who has been injured and are carrying out full enquiries at the scene and speaking to a number of witnesses to establish the full circumstances.”
Forensic officers are today examining the scene as they launch an investigation.
