Holly Willoughby ‘left the NTAs in tears as she was overwhelmed by support’

Holly Willoughby reportedly left the National Television Awards in tears on Tuesday evening, after receiving an ‘outpouring of love’ from her This Morning co-workers.

The host, 37, is said to have departed from London‘s O2 venue just 30 minutes after the ceremony, after losing the Best Presenter award to Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly.

A source told The Sun: ‘Holly had a good cry with her husband Dan [Baldwin]. She was totally overwhelmed by the outpouring of love from her This Morning crew after the ceremony.’

The insider went on: ‘They were all telling her how loved she is and how they couldn’t believe she didn’t win the gong.

‘The amount of genuine empathy got too much for her’, the source added.

MailOnline has contacted representatives for Holly and ITV for comment.

BGT hosts Ant and Dec, both 43, won the prestigious award for the eighteenth year running.

However, the pair faced backlash from some fans as they claimed their win was ‘the height of ridiculousness’ after Ant took a break from his TV commitments last year.

Last week, the Geordie returned to work at Britain’s Got Talent auditions seven months after his second spell in residential rehabilitation, where he received treatment for substance and alcohol abuse issues.

Ant’s break saw Holly fill in his role on the latest series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!.

Despite the snub, Holly nabbed the Daytime TV gong for the ninth year running, alongside This Morning co-host Phillip Schofield.

The morning after the event, Holly and Phillip, 56, appeared very hungover on their ITV breakfast show as they turned up to work on motorbikes, driving directly into the studio.

Earlier, the pair failed to show their faces on the screen as they reached for the aspirin, during a teaser, with a tagline reading: ‘We’re live at 10.30, hopefully.’

It had seemed as though Phil, 56, and Holly, 37, might not turn up to work at all, despite Holly sharing fresh-faced outfit pictures on Instagram earlier.

Alison Hammond, 43, stepped in to present the show, before they burst into the studio on motorbikes and wearing leather.

Holly and Phil celebrated their NTAs win for Best Daytime in spectacular fashion, as they downed from a hip flask backstage.

It was a big night for Holly as she also took to the stage to accept the Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award for I’m A Celebrity.
