A SIX-year-old girl and her mum are calling on people to help a homeless man who was beaten up as he slept.
Gavin Green, 35, was left with two black eyes when a thug kicked him in the face as he bedded down in Gateshead.
But as he lay on the streets alone, two good Samaritans came to his aid.
Alexandria Wright, 27, and her daughter Avaleigh, have been trying to help Gavin get back on his feet by bringing him food, hot drinks and hot water bottles.
They spotted Gavin outside their local shop, with Avaleigh inspired by a ‘random act of kindness’ project at her school.
Alexandria told the Newcastle Chronicle: “We gave him the spaghetti with garlic bread, along with some bananas but we then went back to get him pain killers, a blanket, a flask and then I returned again with a coat.
“He says he wants to accept my help and now I’m doing all I can to get him a permanent home. He deserves a home and a roof over his head.”
The pair have set up a GoFundMe page and want to raise enough cash to get their new friend a flat.
Gavin lost his flat four months ago after his benefit money was reduced and he couldn’t afford the rent.
A roofer by trade, he was forced to quit his job after being diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and becoming ill.

Gavin was claiming Employment and Support Allowance receiving £280 a fortnight, but that was reduced to £128 a fortnight when he was moved to Job Seekers Allowance.
He said: “I miss having my own space and a place where I can put the key in the door and call it home. I would even love a bedsit, just somewhere I can call mine.”
