A trip to the sparkling sands of Margate is bound to go down a treat with the kids (even without a trip to the ice cream van).[/caption]

Q: We are a family of four with two small dogs. My family loves swimming pools with slides & flumes, bike rides and walks with the dogs. But with both children at school we have to holiday in the school break and prices skyrocket! We’re looking for five nights in the UK that won’t break the bank.

A: As you’ve discovered, prices can get very steep once the school holidays start but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the UK with your kids and dogs.

Park Holidays’ Birchington Vale Holiday Park is set in 100acres of Kent countryside just 10minutes from Margate’s beaches and attractions and has an indoor pool with flume, adventure playground, amusement arcade and kids clubs.

Margate’s cobbled squares are often found sprawling with food, drink and laughter in the summer months.[/caption]

There’s also plenty of space to walk the dogs. A camping pod for two adults, two children and two dogs is from £310 for five nights.

A little pricer but ideal for all your needs is Sandy Balls, Fordingbridge in the New Forest – a park packed with family activities including walks with alpacas, horse riding, pond dipping, combat games and lots of arts and crafts activities.

There’s also indoor and outdoor pools, a cycle centre, and even a Spa to keep mum pampered. A five night break in a comfort caravan sleeping four plus two dogs is from £781 in total in August. See the Away Resorts website or call 0330 053 7000.

You don’t have to own a caravan or tent to enjoy the Caravan & Motorhome Club’s Experience Freedom sites. There’s dog-friendly glamping pods and yurts available at sites across the UK including the Cotswolds, Lake District and Brighton – all perfect for keeping kids and canines happy.

Prices start from £59per night for pods sleeping four including an ensuite from £69per night for yours, fully furnished for four for a more authentic glamping experience.

Furry friends are also welcome at Experience Freedom’s tent pitches and in the motorhomes that you can hire via them.
