Husband won’t admit he is addicted to drinking despite downing whiskey every night

DEAR DEIDRE: DESPITE sinking half a bottle of whisky every night, my husband is convinced he doesn’t have a drink problem because he doesn’t wake up craving it.

He didn’t have this issue when we met six years ago. In fact, he went sober for ten months in a bid to lose some weight.

His drinking is out of control but he can’t see it

No issue is too small, too large or too embarrassing. Read our personal replies here.

But ever since starting his new job, his drinking seems to be getting out of control.

He’s 36 and I’m 29. He will walk in the door after work and within ten minutes have finished his first whisky and Coke.

He gets through a bottle of whisky every couple of days. At gatherings it’s even worse.

During his sister’s 40th he got through two bottles by himself. He was a state.

DEIDRE SAYS: It does sound like his new job is stressing him out.

Encourage him to speak to Drinkline (0300 123 1110) for an opinion and advice about treatment.

Perhaps hearing from someone else that he has a problem will help bring home the message.

It might help to speak to someone about stress, so I’m sending my support pack on Counselling.
