I am struggling to cope with the death of my husband who I found dead

DEAR DEIDRE: I WOKE up to find my husband lying dead next to me a year ago today. He had heart trouble and had died while he was sleeping.

He was only 54. I am 53 and will never get over the shock. I cannot remember much about the first few weeks after he died as it was a blur.

I have struggled to function ever since, if I am honest.

My kids have been good but they are grown up and have now both moved out, so I am alone. I went back to work two weeks ago but it is too soon.

I just couldn’t cope and have been signed off sick. How on earth am I going to move forward?

DEIDRE SAYS: I am sorry you lost your husband so young.

As well as the normal stages of grief at your loss, you sound to be suffering from post-traumatic stress.

My e-leaflet Help For Bereavement explains how grieving can affect us but do also ask your GP for treatment for PTSD.
