HAVE you ever wondered why some of your Instagram posts aren’t as popular as others?
Even though you’ve perfected your filter and carefully upped your saturation levels, some snaps just seem to flop – but there’s a reason why.
Research by UK-based mobile company e2save has revealed what it believes to be the formula for maximising your likes.
And actually, it’s really simple.
According to them, there are four key types of photo that get more people clicking that little heart button.
So if your images don’t fit into these categories, they’re less likely to be an Insta-success.
Apparently, your posts should either be holiday snaps, feature an animal, be celebrating an achievement or include food.
This does make sense, considering how big dog accounts and the #FoodPorn hashtag are.
Even so, we’ve taken a look at some of our favourite celebrities’ pages to see if the rule actually applies.
As it turns out, it kinda does. Check out the evidence…
1) Holiday snaps
When Olivia Buckland shared this snap on the left from her hen party in Mykonos, she received 259k likes.
The photo of her relaxing in her pyjamas got just 36.4k. Still, not bad…
Millie Mackintosh’s dreamy Maldives photo got an incredible 31k likes.
Meanwhile her workout snapshot reached 5.8k. Perhaps she needs to raise the bar…
2) Animal pictures
Former Made In Chelsea star Lucy Watson landed 57.5k likes when she and boyfriend James Dunmore posed with her adorable dog Digby.
But her picture with old co-star Ianthe Rose Cochrane-Stack attracted 30k less.
We think this photo of Khloe Kardashian with her pet pooch is adorable, and so did plenty of others – two million, to be exact.
Unfortunately, her pic with her gal pals only amassed 924k. I mean, we say only…
When Pretty Little Liars actress Shay Mitchell celebrated her 31st birthday with this cake snap, she got 1.3m likes.
Her colourful sombreros photo is undoubtedly pretty, but it only attracted 215k likes.
Little Mix’s Jade Thirwall reached 208k likes with this sexy ice cream shot.
But she got a lot less loving after telling fans she was in the studio, with only 121k of them hitting the like button.
4) Celebrating an achievement
Dua Lipa revealed she’d reached 14m Instagram followers with this fun post, and 1m people liked it.
But when she headed out with a pal a few days later, she raked in a slightly less impressive 747k likes.
Amber Davies’ photo with then-boyfriend Kem Cetinay garnered 214k likes just after they won Love Island last year.
While she’s still a huge Instagram influencer, her recent selfie only received 48.3k.
The power of success, eh?
