IN a new blog on Sun Racing every Saturday I’ll be giving you my ‘Good’, ‘Bad’ and ‘Ugly’ moments from the past week in the world of horse racing!
It’s sure to be a laugh so let’s get straight to it!
There’s no doubt the ‘Good’ moment of the week for me was something I predicted would happen in my Sun Column a few weeks ago.
Arc heroine Enable will take her chance in the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Churchill Downs which is crazy cool news.
The Breeders’ Cup needs this filly, with Triple Crown hero Justify retired. Her presence will light the place up – all we need now is Roaring Lion in the Classic!
The future of Down Royal was thrown into serious doubt on Wednesday after the management company of Horse Racing Ireland’s current racecourse of the year revealed it was preparing to cease racing there at the end of 2018.
Management at the Grade 1 track had been involved in a dispute after the company that owns it, Dublin-based Merrion Property Group, sought to evict the Down Royal Corporation of Horse Breeders, the group which had overseen operations at the track since it was bought by Merrion for €6.1 million in 2005.
Merrion is understood to have met the criteria set out by a Land Tribunal to evict its tenant.
I have been to Down Royal a few times and it’s a fabulous place really well managed by Mike Todd and his team. Their work deserves better treatment.
There was a big party for ITV this week on Tuesday night and following the event I popped to well known club Mahiki for a bit of fun in Mayfair.
As is often the case with these things, the next day I could have felt better so I had an amazing bacon and sausage sandwich to try ease the pain.
Say nothing! The simple fact, though, is I looked pretty ugly eating it! Thanks to my friend Lucia for this lovely photo!
