ITV racing tips: NAPS for Tuesday’s action as Matt Chapman and Templegate go head-to-head at the Cheltenham Festival

OUR two experts are back with their best bet for the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival.

Both our tipsters were out of luck on Saturday and will be eager to get off to a flyer at the Festival.

Stewart Williams

Templegate’s hope Ami Desbois ran an unusually quiet race at Sandown.

Chappers’ selection Oh This Is Us was punted off the boards but also ran below expectations at Wolves.

But both are very keen on their day one tips and can’t wait for the Festival to get underway.

Standings (£1 Stakes)

January: Chappers 1 – 0 Templegate

February: Chappers 1 – 1 Templegate

March: Chappers -2

Templegate +2.25

Matt Chapman

LAURINA might just be a superstar for Ireland’s champion trainer Willie Mullins.

Unbeaten in six starts for Mullins, Laurina has destroyed every horse that has seen her.

And while she’s not faced the test she does today, she might just be a monster in the making.

I hope so. Come on Ruby Walsh.

Chapman's picks for the ITV races

  • 1.30 Cheltenham – Aramon
  • 2.10 Cheltenham – Hardline EW
  • 2.50 Cheltenham – Beware The Bear
  • 3.30 Cheltenham – Laurina NAP
  • 4.10 Cheltenham – Benie Des Dieux
  • 4.50 Cheltenham – A Plus Tard
  • 5.30 Cheltenham – Impulsive Star EW

Templegate

I’ve always thought MISTER WHITAKER would improve when stepped up to 3m.

He won the Close Brothers Novices’ Chase on this day 12 months ago and he had top-class Cyrname behind when making a winning return at Carlisle in November.

It was no surprise to see him sent off favourite for the BetVictor Gold Cup at this track in November. He was far from disgraced in fourth but it was clear the trip was on the sharp side for him.

It was a similar story behind much-improved Cyrname at Ascot last time out and that should have set him up for this prize.

Templegate's picks for the ITV races

  • 1.30 Cheltenham – Grand Sancy
  • 2.10 Cheltenham – Hardline
  • 2.50 Cheltenham – Mister Whitaker NAP
  • 3.30 Cheltenham – Apple’s Jade
  • 4.10 Cheltenham – Benie Des Dieux
  • 4.50 Cheltenham – A Plus Tard
  • 5.30 Cheltenham – Ballyward
