It’s the most glittering event of the Trumps’ three-day state visit to the UK, and Ivanka Trump certainly put on a glamorous display as she attended last night’s state banquet as a guest of the Queen.
The First Daughter, 37, stepped out in a pastel blue dress by Carolina Herrera, which has a price tag of over £9,000, teaming it with pearl accessories.
But the gown, which features a shirt collar and button down front, left several questioning if it was ‘too casual’ for such a formal event.
Etiquette expert William Hanson suggested the president’s daughter had ‘missed the mark’ with her outfit, saying: ‘Ivanka Trump’s look was perfect… for an upper east side corporate garden party.’
Ivanka (pictured left with Trade Secretary Liam Fox) looked stunning at the event, although some questioned if the blue gown was a little too casual for the palace

The President’s daughter made a fashion statement when attending the state dinner at Buckingham Palace on Monday evening.
Ivanka donned a baby blue Carolina Herrera shirt gown, which featured floral embellishments and a billowy, pleated skirt. The smart collar and the three-quarter tie-sleeves added even more elegance to the gown.
Carolina Herrera has dressed several First Ladies, from Jackie O to Michelle Obama, so it’s no wonder Ivanka wanted to don the label for such an event.
While most of us don’t have the same budget as the First Daughter, the dress is currently available to buy at Neiman Marcus (click right).

Some social media users were critical of Ivanka’s look, with several questioning if the bedazzled dress was too ‘casual’ for the formal state dinner

He went on: ‘It did cover all the requisite parts that need concealing for formal British evening occasions such as state banquets but it didn’t quite hit the mark, however beautiful a colour and fabric it may have been.’
The white-tie state dinner, which took place in the Buckingham Palace ballroom last night, is one of the most formal events in the Trump’s three day visit to the UK.
Ivanka Trump chose a bedazzled ‘trench gown’ for the formal event, which features a shirt collar, button front, and A-line silhouette.
Her blonde hair was neatly pulled into a bun, completing the look with minimal make-up and smokey eye shadow.

The etiquette expert also questioned Ivanka’s decision not to wear evening gloves, saying: ‘There was an absence of evening gloves, too, although other British and American guests did also commit this faux pas too.’
The collared blue dress was a sharp contrast to the choices made by the British royals, with the Queen, the Duchess of Cornwall and Kate Middleton donning white gowns for the occasion.
Her stepmother and First Lady Melania also matched the royals in her white Dior Couture dress with long formal gloves.
Social media users couldn’t help but notice Ivanka’s dress, with several commenting it was ‘too casual’.
Social media users were left unimpressed by Ivanka’s choice of dress, which many commenting that it was too casual for the white tie event
One commented: ‘Her dress seems a little out of place compared to others, does anyone agree or disagree?’
‘Ivanka did not get the memo to dress up,’ another wrote,’Really shirt collar dress. Is that the best you could do? Ugh.’
Another commented:’ Ivanka, you are such a sharp dresser 99% of the time. You look so sloppy in that white dress at Buckingham palace. Surely you could have found something sharper to wear as I’m usually so proud of you choices.’
A fourth simply wrote:’She wore a shirt dress? Really?’

Meanwhile Ivanka’s short sleeves and button down top were also a contrast to the gowns worn by her sister Tiffany and sister-in-law Lara, white evening gloves with their evening dresses.
Tiffany donned a dark red off-the-shoulder velvet gown, while Eric Trump’s wife Lara wore a white strapless dress.
