Kylie Minogue recreates her 2003 Slow video in Australia for sizzling Christmas message to the UK

She is undoubtedly Australia’s most notable export, starting on soap Neighbours before forging a wildly successful singing career.

And Kylie Minogue transformed into her iconic Neighbours character Charlene Robinson as she delivered a Christmas message to the UK and encouraged Brits to head Down Under on holiday.

The singer, 51, joined forces with fellow famous Aussies including comedian Adam Hills, cricketer Shane Warne and swimmer Ian Thorp to deliver the musical message titled Matesong, as part of Tourism Australia’s latest campaign.

The Spinning Around songstress donned mechanic Charlene’s trademark overalls and baggy sweatshirts, paired with her 80s perm to recreate the iconic character at work in the garage.

She said: ‘The recreation of Charlene is one that I didn’t see coming! It was totally surreal and when I walked on set with the curls, the overalls and that scrunchie, it was like having an out of body experience. Charlene was back!

‘Any Brits who are old enough to remember Charlene will hopefully love it.

‘The film is full of little jokes, and those self-deprecating moments, alongside the competitive rivalry references and banter that really defines the loving relationship Australia has with the UK.’

Kylie said: ‘Filming across Australia was literally a dream come true. I’ve had the opportunity to see parts of the country I haven’t seen before, as well as to go home and revisit places that I know are beautiful.

‘This was my first-time visiting Uluru, and it’s as overwhelming, epic and inspiring as I imagined and dreamt it would be.

‘From the moment you fly in and get a first glimpse of the rock, it is magnificent. I had a very powerful and beautiful moment on the first day of filming, staring up at the rock with two of the local Indigenous Elders, Reggie and Cassidy. I simply cannot wait to go back there.

‘Rottnest Island was another magical place. We arrived via helicopter over the most crystal clear and pristine waters.

Only recently, Kylie returned to Glastonbury and performed on the Pyramid stage after she was forced to pull out the music festival in 2005 following her breast cancer diagnosis.

Speaking about what it meant to perform ahead of the event, Kylie admitted that she thought she had ‘missed her opportunity’ and that she would never return to the festival again following her cancer battle when she was aged just 36.

Speaking to the Mirror, she said: ‘I would have been one of the only female solo artists in the festival’s history to headline. I really thought I missed my opportunity and, as the years went by, I said to myself, “Well this just isn’t going to happen”.

Kylie, who celebrated ten years all-clear from breast cancer in 2015, added that she was ‘deeply affected’ by having to pull out of Glastonbury and watched the festival on TV with her parents in Melbourne, Australia, in 2005 amid her treatment.

She said: ‘My memory’s so strong of so much around that time and while my focus had moved on from Glastonbury, I was watching and going, “I’m meant to be there”.

‘I will remember what happened those years ago and my overriding feeling will just be of gratitude and, how fragile life can be.’
