This is not Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt (a million dollar budget in the year 2000) or Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise (two million in 2006) who will say the opposite…
You have a limited budget, or that you do not count on being able spend your fortune, here’s some news that you will help in your choice : weddings, non-expensive option would be more likely to last, reports a study conducted by two professors in economics. To prove this, Andrew Francis-Tan (University of Singapore) and Hugo M. Mialon (Emory University) have sifted through the marriages of 3,000 Americans, in terms of expenditures during the ceremony and longevity.
Thus, we learn that men who spent between 2 000 (1 700 €) 4 000 $ (3 400 €) on an engagement ring were 1.3 times more likely to divorce than those who have put less than $ 2,000. Or even that women with the budget of the ceremony is over 20 000 $ (17 000 €) have 1.6 times more risk of seeing their marriage shattered.
It would be better to bet on the honeymoon
If, at the time of the wedding season, many sites are French, and americans began to relay this information, the study date in reality a little, since it was published in 2014. This does not preclude its authors to be regularly re-examined on the subject. “The report that the appearance of the partner was important in the decision to marry is significantly associated with duration of marriage is shorter”, says professor Mialon to The Independent.
Proof that couples surface would last less than the other ? May as well be. By contrast, the marriages of the travellers would take them, the road better. The study finds that newlyweds going on a honeymoon “are seeing significantly lower the risk of divorce”. A track also highlighted by a survey released in 2017, which revealed that couples traveling together say they are more fulfilled (as the others) in their sexual life.
