LEWIS HAMILTON and Sebastian Vettel collided in the opening lap of the Italian Grand Prix – sending the Ferrari ace spinning off the track.
The two world title rivals made contact as Hamilton launched a brilliant overtaking move to take Vettel’s second spot.
Vettel failed to make the turn under pressure from his rival and his car drifted out to clip the rear wheel of the Mercedes and ripped some of the carbon fibre from his Ferrari.
A virtual safety car was launched which allowed Vettel to coast to the pits and get a new front wing, but meant when the race re-started on lap four he was second from the back.
