Lily Collins led the glamour as she attended Tolkien’s UK premiere at Curzon Mayfair in London on Monday.

The actress commanded attention in a stunning white floral watercolour gown as she joined her dapper co-star Nicholas Hoult on the green carpet.

Lily plays JRR Tolkien’s romantic muse and future wife Edith Bratt in the biopic while Nicholas, 29, takes the lead as the famed Lord of the Rings author.

Lily exuded elegance in the strapless gown, which highlighted her slender physique with its low scoop back, ruched bodice and puffball skirt.

Strutting down the red carpet, the Blind Side star caught the eye in the striking dress, which came complete with a semi-sheer trail and pretty gold bow.

Styling her partially slicked back brunette looks in sophisticated waves, Lily complemented her spring green carpet look with a pink palette of make-up and gold hoop earrings.

Lily, the daughter of Genesis singer Phil, stars as Edith Tolkien, who inspired Lord Of The Rings’ elven queen Arwen Evenstar, in the new biopic about the author’s early years.

Previously speaking about the literary genius, Lily told The Mail On Sunday: ‘I’m a huge fan of The Lord Of The Rings.

‘Playing the woman who inspired the elven queen was my way of working around these stories in a different way.

‘As much as I’d loved the stories themselves, to be able to play a character who inspired some of them was amazing.’

She added: ‘I was able to learn so much about this author. There’s a lot about the First World War, and director Dome Karukoski has an interesting perspective on this.

‘Nicholas Hoult, who plays Tolkien, was just wonderful – he’s been a friend for a while, so to be able to work with him was a joy.

‘I think a lot of people will love this film. It’s an epic drama and it’s very British too.’

The first trailer for the film was released in February, and opens with Lily narrating over a scene of the author as a child, as she asks him: ‘Tell me a story.’

Lily, who was born in England but lives in Los Angeles previously revealed she worked for hours to perfect her English accent, after developing a Californian twang.

She told the Observer: ‘She [my character] was very creative and very passionate and driven, and he was intellectually stimulated by her, at that time women of her status and in her position weren’t really afforded the opportunity to seek higher.

But she encouraged him to continue on his path. It’s very selfless, and, at times, heartbreaking.

‘I did worry that people were going to be like, ‘Well, she is actually British, her accent should really be better, there’s an extra level of pressure. I worked with a dialect coach as I needed it to be absolutely spot-on.’

In the trailer, scenes show Tolkien grow from boy to man, as he can be heard saying: ‘It’s a story about journeys, the journeys we take to prove ourselves.’

His guardian asked him to wait until he was 21 to pursue the romance with Edith as he believed he had been paying less attention at school due to love and didn’t like that Edith was a Protestant and not a Catholic.

Tolkien begrudgingly obeyed the instruction and wrote to Edith on the evening of his 21st birthday with a proposal but discovered she was engaged to another man.

Edith didn’t think Tolkien loved her any more and was worried about being left on the shelf, but she admitted the letter had changed everything for her.

She returned the ring and she and Tolkien married, with Edith converting to Catholicism and being thrown out of her home as a result.

They remained together until Edith passed away in 1971 and they are now buried alongside one another.

They have the names Beren and Lúthien on their headstones, named after two lovers who appear in several of Tolkien’s works and were inspired by their own love affair.

It was reported that Tolkien’s family have distanced themselves from an upcoming biopic about the author and do not approve of the new film.

In the first statement made by the Tolkien Estate regarding the biopic, the family of the author said it does not endorse the Fox Searchlight production ‘in any way’.
