Man Charged In Death Of Girl Found In Suitcase Was Her Mother’s Boyfriend

Last week, the country was shocked by the news that the unidentified body of a young girl had been discovered stuffed in a suitcase in Los Angeles County, California.

A police sketch of the girl – in the pajama pants and “Future Princess Hero” shirt she was found in – went viral as the public reacted with outrage to the tragic news.

This week, police have identified the victim as 9-year-old Trinity Love Jones, and charged Emiel Lamar Hunt, 38, with her murder.

Hunt was reportedly the boyfriend of Trinity’s mother, and was previously convicted of child abuse in San Diego County in 2005 according to officials.

Trinity’s body was found by county workers last Tuesday, near a hiking trail in the Hacienda Heights neighborhood. Investigators said her body was “partially hidden” in a black duffel bag suitcase with wheels.

Police later released sketches of Trinity and a photo of the suitcase she was found in to the public, in the hope that someone could identify her.

Hunt was arrested Saturday morning after investigators found him asleep in his car near the San Diego International Airport.

The L.A. County Sheriff’s Office previously announced that two persons of interest had been detained in relation to the case, and said on Tuesday that “information regarding the second person of interest is being withheld pending further investigation.”

The coroner said that Trinity’s cause of death is also being withheld, but investigators believe she was killed on or around March 1.

At a memorial near where Trinity’s body was discovered, family members and strangers have left flowers and other mementos for her.

Her father, Antonio Jones, told NBC Los Angeles his daughter was “full of character, full of life, full of joy.”

Hunt is charged with murder, and has already made his first court appearance but did not enter a plea. He’s due back in court April 16.
