A teenager has appeared in court charged with murder, rape and arson after a woman’s body was found in a burning flat.
Curtis Moyse, 18, appeared before Leicester Magistrates’ Court today following the death of Leah Fray, 27.
Ms Fray’s body was found inside a torched flat over the Easter weekend after emergency services were called to a fire in a flat on Mere Road, Leicester, just after 7am on April 21.

Moyse, of Avonside Drive, Leicester, is charged with the murder of Ms Fray in a flat at Mere Road, Leicester on April 21.
He is also charged with arson with intent to endanger life and rape [the victim of the rape is not named on the indictment] at the same address on the same day.
At Leicester Magistrates Court today, Moyse, who was dressed in a grey tracksuit, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and nationality and showed no emotion during the hearing which lasted around ten minutes.
Karen Grewcock, chair of the bench, adjourned the case to Leicester Crown Court on April 29.

Moyse was remanded in custody.

Following the discovery of Ms Fray’s body, police suspected that the fire had been deliberately started and launched a murder probe.
During the police hunt, officers appealed for anyone in the Mere Road area on the morning of April 21 to come forward and assist in their investigation.
