McDonald’s drive-thru worker reveals how staff spy on drivers and leave them waiting on PAUSE if they are busy

A MCDONALD’S drive-thru worker has revealed how sneaky staff ‘spy’ on drivers and leave them waiting on PAUSE if they’re busy.

“In fact we hear everything you say the minute you’re at the speaker,” another employee warned.

Mind your manners! McDonald’s drive-thru staff have warned they can hear everything you say while waiting in the lane[/caption]

Most of the time they can apparently overhear famished customers insulting them while they wait for their order to be ready, revealed Amber.

The former McDonald’s worker also explained in a TikTok clip why Brits are sometimes left waiting in ever-growing drive-thru queues.

To help cope with any sudden deluge of customers, staff apparently have a handy option to put some drivers “on pause”, reported the Express.

Amber said: “When you pull forward in the drive-thru we can already see you and hear you, even though we haven’t said ‘hello’.

“When we actually put you on pause – because we are busy – we can still hear you.

“The amount of insults I heard!”

She also claimed that the mammoth fast food chain obtains details about motorists visiting the drive-thru lane – for example noting how long it takes for their food to be handed over.

Amber said: “If you see the black discs in drive-thru, they are sensors and they actually time how long you are there.

“Hence why we park you up because we are competing with every other drive-thru in the country.”

Her revelations echo similar comments the Sun Online published in January, which said that McDonald’s staff can see EXACTLY what you’re doing at all times and even take a snap of you when you order.

The foolproof process allows for speedy orders and helps staff to keep track of multiple orders with ease.

In a clip, TikTok user Katie Clarke who works at the popular burger chain, explains the McDonald’s drive-thru window has cameras installed and staff actually take a pic of everyone as they approach.

“I get asked this all the time,” she captioned her viral post, that has amassed millions of views.

When we actually put you on pause – because we are busy – we can still hear you.

In the footage, Katie can be seen in her work uniform while offering a glimpse of the camera during her shift.

She explains: “There is a camera and it takes a picture of you and your car.

“So maybe don’t pick your nose when you order…,” she jokes, “because we see it and we judge you.”

It didn’t take long for people to comment on her video, with many shocked by the revelation.

“I thought they just had crazy memory,” one TikTok user confessed.

And another wrote: “I’m shook (sic), oh my god.”

While a third McDonald’s fan added: “They can see me all this time I’ve been going in my PJs and dressing gown, oh god.”

Other McDonald’s staff also chimed in to reveal that they allegedly “hear” everything from the moment a customer’s car activates the sensor.

‘You’re not on hold’

This is actually what allows them to know when to put their headset on preparation to take the order.

“In fact we hear everything you say the minute you’re at the speaker,” a staffer said.

But another employee chimed in to say the store he works at is “not that advanced”, instead saying they “just have to figure it out.”

Some joked that despite there being cameras, staff “still manage to get orders wrong”.

“And y’all still gave my order to the car in front,” one person wrote.

Meanwhile on Reddit, user ‘wreckinitralph’ wrote on the ‘LifeProTips’ forum: “As soon as you drive up to the speaker, we get a beep over our headsets and the transmission begins.

“If we don’t answer you right away – we can hear everything.

“If we apologise and say we’ll be with you in a minute – you’re not on hold, we can hear everything.”

They joked: “I wish I could forget some of the stuff I’ve heard.

“On the flipside, some of the stuff I’ve heard has made me give the customer a nice little bonus on their order when it sounds like they need it.”

It’s unknown if all McDonald’s stores have the same process.
