Meghan Markle’s famous friends wade in to defend her ahead of Oprah interview

Harry and Meghan have insisted their bombshell interview would be the ‘last word’ on the rift with the Royal Family.

In an astonishing claim yesterday – hours before they aired their grievances to millions – the couple said they felt they ‘needed to have their say’, but now ‘considered the matter closed’ and wanted to ‘move on’.

However, the Royal Family has already been rocked by the fallout from the embittered couple’s decision to speak out about their acrimonious decision to quit royal duties.

It may also be harder for the couple to carry on as if nothing has happened after a toxic few weeks, particularly given the distress they have caused the Queen while 99-year-old Prince Philip is in hospital.

A source close to the couple told The Daily Telegraph: ‘It was something they felt they wanted and needed to do, but now they have done it they feel a line has been drawn under that chapter of their lives and they want to move on.’

The source said that to emphasise their point, they planned to announced a raft of work projects, including some connected to their lucrative Spotify and Netflix deals.

The Duchess’s supporters came out in force yesterday, with members of so-called Team Meghan attacking the Royal Family as ‘historically racist’ on social media and claiming criticism of the Duchess could make her miscarry.

Patrick J Adams, her co-star on the TV show Suits, referred to news that she had been accused of bullying staff, tweeting: ‘It’s obscene that the Royal Family… is promoting and amplifying accusations of ‘bullying’ against a woman who herself was basically forced to flea [sic] the UK in order to protect her family and her own mental health.’

Model Chrissy Teigan, who miscarried last year, tweeted: ‘This Meghan Markle s*** is hitting too close to home for me. These people won’t stop until she miscarries. f***** stop it.’

US broadcaster Gayle King, who is friends with Meghan and Miss Winfrey, said on her radio show: ‘The Palace… has launched what appears to be a full-scale take-down of Meghan which is raging in the UK, saying she was a mean girl who mistreated staff, and if you meet Meghan Markle nothing could be further from the truth.’
