The wealth of Jeff Bezos, boss ofAmazon, has further increased to reach new record highs, making him the richest man in the world since decades, according to the rating Bloomberg Billionaires Index. His wealth reached Monday 150 billion, placing it far ahead of the founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, and his $ 95 billion, according to estimates from Bloomberg.
The sharp rise in the price of the shares of Amazon, a company he founded and of which he is the main shareholder with almost 17%, reported $ 50 billion this year. The fortune of Bill Gates had briefly reached the $ 100 billion in 1999, threshold today largely overtaken by Mr. Bezos, at the age of 54 years.
Historically, however, it remains still far behind people like the oil tycoon John D. Rockefeller (d. 1937) and the baron of steel Andrew Carnegie (died 1919), whose wealth would reach today’s $ 300 billion, taking into account inflation.
In 2014, Jeff Bezos was worth $ 32 billion. He founded Amazon, originally an online bookstore, in 1994. The multinational is now one of the most powerful in the world, and has diversified its activities by launching the “cloud” (online data storage), artificial intelligence, or even streaming video.
Jeff Bezos has, in particular, bought back the journal reference american Washington Post in 2013. The announcement came during the operation of super-promotions “Premium Day”, which offers discounts to subscribers of premium Amazon for 36 hours.
