Intel Pentium Gold 4415Y CPU, 8GB RAM and 128GB SATA SSD Storage in our Surface Go Overview Configuration is not incredibly powerful, but they are enough to do some small tasks at the same time. I had 18 tabs open in Google Chrome, including a 1080p episode of last week tonight with John Oliver when I started to see some more layers than usual when switching between tabs. Performance should be sufficient for some simple browsing to complete the time or quit a short written assignment.
At Geekbench 4 overall performance test, Surface Go scored a score of 3,900. It is pales in comparison to the usual portable average (8,461) and Microsoft’s Surface Pro with a more powerful Core i7-76600U. The VivoBook did something higher with its Intel Pentium N400, like the iPad with its A9X CPU. [1945903019459031194590321945903419459034194590341945903419459034
Surface Go took 33 seconds to transfer 4.97GB mixed media files, 154.22 MBps. It hits the average of 138.7 Mbps and VivoBooks eMMC storage. Surface Pro Burns Surface Go at 339Mbps.
Microsoft’s 10-inch tablet took 4 minutes and 42 seconds to match 65,000 names and addresses, which did not fall below 2:11. And on our Handbrake video editing test, Surface Go took almost an hour to convert a 4K video to 1080p, almost twice as much as the average time.
It’s not surprising that Surface Go is not the strongest artist. And while the price of the 8GB model puts it in our usual portable range, it’s so close to a Microsoft budget machine that we’ve seen. For individual tasks, streaming and browsing, Surface Go made just what I needed. ] We noticed some performance attempts under long-term tasks. When we had Surface Go, Cinebench runs 10 times, its highest score (Run 1) was 162, and its lowest score (run 7) was 120. The average CPU clock rate was 1.5 GHz, just under 1.6 GHz promised. CPU measured an average of 62 degrees Celsius (143.6 degrees Fahrenheit) during the test.
So no, Surface Go is not very powerful. But in my time, I never knew that it was meant for such long, unpleasant tasks.
The Surface Book’s 10-inch, IPS, 1800 x 1200 pixelSense screen is bright and colorful. It also has a 3: 2 aspect ratio, which feels much more natural than a tablet than laptops with 16: 9 screens (but it also means black bars while viewing video). When I watched a 1080p trailer for Aquaman the screen created wonderful colors. An underwater image revealed green plants that popped against the blue sea and purple buildings. As a warrior in Atlantis, I was able to see all the bubbles produced by swinging tridents. ] The screen covers 130 percent of the sRGB color range, exceeding the usual portable media (93 percent) iPad (119 percent) and VivoBook (68 percent). Only Surface Pro (140 percent) was more alive.
Interestingly, the Surface Go, at 404 nits medium intensity, was more bright than Surface Pro ( 396 nits), as well as the 240-nit average and the VivoBook. But the iPad was the brightest of the group at 489 nits.
Typewriter and Surface Pen
If you want a true 2-in-1 experience with Surface Go, you must pay. Microsoft’s type cover begins at $ 99.99 for black polyurethane, or $ 129.99 for a signature type cover with Alcantara fabric in cobalt, platinum or wine red. We splurged for the latter in platinum, and I really like how soft it felt to my wrists when I wrote. It provides 0.9 millimeter key travel and requires 61 grams of power to push. 10 fastfingers.com typing test, I beat 103 words per minute (wpm), which is a bit below my usual 107wpm average, but with my default 2 percent error rate. When I wrote, I found the keys to be small and close to each other (I only saturated about 1 millimeter between the keys), but as shown by the results, it is not enough to keep me peeing. I thought the keys had a nice sticky feel despite the low trip the touchpad on the cabinet is 3.8 x 2.1 inches, which I found enough space to navigate in Windows 10. Of course, Microsoft Type Cover Covered with Precision Drivers, and every gesture which I threw it worked well. Two-finger scrolling? Sure. Empty my desk with a three finger tip down? Absolutely. Open the Action Center with a four finger fingerprint? No problem.
$ 99.99 Surface Pen offers 4,096 degrees of print and is still among the best on a PC . If you’re not an artist, it’s hard to call it a must-own but its eraser, button to call Windows Ink Workspace, and simple storage with a magnet that connects to the side of the tablet makes it great for anyone who likes to outline. If you like to do work or take notes while standing, the pen can also help.
Tablet or Computer?
I watched Surface Go like a Windows 10 laptop. With the type cover fastened, it is more than ready for easy work. But at 10 inches it’s also the perfect size to be a tablet. The fact is that it may be how some people use it most of the time.
Windows 10’s tablet mode is good. If you just surf the web, you do OK. I do not think the touch keyboard is as good as what you find in iOS or Android, but you do not need the cover to make things work. In the end, I found myself with the desktop windows view, not tablet mode, even without the typeface. It’s just more organized.
For true writing and spreadsheets, the type cover is basically mandatory.
The speakers on Surface Go are not power supplies, but they get the job done. When I listened to Bon Jovis, “Living on a Prayer”, the song, drums and guitars were clear, but the bass did not subdue how I would like it. The song just filled a medium sized conference room and worked really best when I sat directly in front of the display.
Surface Go is sealed tightly. Do not expect to be able to upgrade it. If you want 8 GB RAM or 128 GB of storage space, invest in the more expensive model when you first buy that laptop. On the bright side, you have increased storage space with the microSD card slot.
Battery life of the battery is not up to its competitors. It lasted 6 hours and 21 minutes on our battery test, which continuously browses the web, runs OpenGL tests, and stream videos with 150 light levels. The average laptop average is 7:26, and both Surface Pro and VivoBook overloaded Surface Go. Victorn in the country of tablets here, iPad lasted for 10:07.
After streaming 15 minutes HD video from YouTube, the back of Surface Go measured 97 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s not too hot to hold like a tablet, but some degree coolers would be a bit more comfortable.
Surface has two cameras: a forward-facing webcam and a backward-looking shooter.
The webcam of 2.560 x 1.440 is quite good. It is a higher resolution than we see on much more expensive laptops, and more importantly, it takes a solid photo. A shot I took on my desk was well lit and color corrected and got a little discoloration on my favorite blue shirt (thanks to Surface Go, to make me realize it’s time to throw this shirt away). It’s also sharp, catches my dimple and all hair in my beard. The front camera can also be used with Windows Hello to sign in with face recognition.
The 3.264 x 1.836 camera on the back of the laptop was great at capturing colors. Pictures on my Iron Man and Captain America desktop toys were extremely alive.
Windows 10 S, Software and Warranty
Surface Go comes in Windows 10 in S mode, which just lets you download the images as sharp as I would like. Apps from the Microsoft Store. Microsoft suggests that this makes the laptop safer and lasts longer for a fee, but I recommend that you update for free for Windows 10 Home. It allows you to download any apps you want online, including very popular applications that are not in the Microsoft Store, such as Google Chrome browser.
Surprisingly, Microsoft gives a clean version of Windows 10. The only add-ons are LinkedIn and Surface App, with some pencil settings, battery levels for Microsoft accessories and support information (the latter are more useful by the two).
Otherwise, you’ll only get the same upload as you usually use with Windows 10, including Royal Revolt 2: Tower Defense and Candy Crush Soda Saga .
Microsoft sells Surface Go with 1 year warranty.
Surface Go tested with an Intel Pentium 4415Y CPU, 8GB RAM and 128GB M.2 SATA SSD storage costs $ 549. We also bought a $ 129.99 Signature Type Cover with Alcantara, giving the total to $ 679.99. If you want a Surface Pen, it’s another $ 100. With all the accessories, you go into the Surface Pro area (The Core m3 version starts at $ 799, but it’s again, without the keyboard).
The cheapest model is $ 349, which uses the same processor but with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage (unlike the SSD on our more expensive device). There is also a cheaper black polyurethane type protection for $ 99.99.
Costco has a separate $ 549 model, with 128GB SSD and 4GB RAM, with the polyurethane keyboard included. If you price it, it means essentially that you pay $ 100 for 64GB of extra storage.
An LTE model is scheduled later this year, but Microsoft has not announced an issue date or price.
Microsoft can see Surface Go as a tablet, and that’s good. But for real Windows work, you need the keyboard, and the fact that it is not packed with this device (or Surface Pro, for that matter) is a real limit and should be considered when considering the entire price.
I did not expect to like Surface Go as much as I did. Its dimensioning stature can be deterrent to some, but I finally found out that I was used to the little screen. It does not have a lot of power, so this works best as an affordable entry for easy users or as a secondary device. I could see someone who has a Surface Go to travel and carry to and from the office. If you need real power then it will look like a netbook for you.
However, the price after purchasing a typewriter and stylus climbs up to $ 680. At that time, it’s worth starting to look at Surface Pros Base Model, starting at $ 799. If you find an agreement with the type cupboard thrown in, it may be worth it.
The second great option is 9.7 “iPad. It starts at $ 329, but only gives you 32GB of storage space. 128 GB will drive you $ 429. Again, it’s all without a keyboard or a stylus. And Apple does not sell its own case for it, so you need a keyboard set with Bluetooth connectivity. The application Pen will even add $ 99 to the cost, just like the Surface Pen. However, the iPad runs iOS, not a full desktop operating system. It has made great progress in iOS 11, but it does not have all the complications in Windows.
And anyone who wants or wants these complications is who will get Surface Go. It’s a tablet, but also the full Windows 10 computer you know and love. It’s not a powerful computer, but it’s enough to get some work on, yes, go. And for its price, it is well-built and also fun to use.
