Mum leaves the internet in stitches after microwaving lemons but was left with burnt marks

A woman has left the internet laughing after attempting to clean her microwave using the popular lemon in water trick.

The cleaning hack involves placing a chopped lemon in a bowl filled with water or vinegar, then placing in the microwave for one minute.

But the woman missed the vital step of putting the citrus fruit in water, which resulted in heavily burnt lemons and more mess to clean up.

‘Not that I use the microwave much anyway, but the hack “Clean by microwaving a lemon” did not work for me,’ she said on Facebook and shared an image.

Others part of the Mums Who Cook, Clean and Organise Australian Facebook group were shocked and asked several questions in the comments.

‘You are joking right? I sure hope so!’ one said, another added: ‘Did you not smell it burning?’

‘Sorry I’m laughing – I did mine today so it’s made my day,’ another said.

Others simply reiterated the instructions, but the woman quickly realised what she did wrong.

‘You definitely will have more success putting the lemon in a bowl of water,’ another mum advised.
