A MUM tried to kill herself and her two sons by driving head-on into a petrol tanker – after telling a friend it was “God’s will”, police said.
Melissa Mack, 48, drove the wrong way down a dual carriageway in Gainsville, Florida, on Friday with her boys – aged 4 and 6 – in the van with her.

Mack allegedly drove the wrong way down a dual carriageway in Gainsville, Florida, and tried to smash into a 330-gallon petrol truck[/caption]
Earlier, she allegedly told the friend that “nothing could be done” to save them – and they should “say goodbye” to the children, who have autism.
Mack tried to plough into a 330-gallon tanker – but hero trucker Paul Dale Hackbarth managed to serve out of her way at the last minute, cops said.
According to authorities, determined Mack then pulled a U-turn and rammed into the back end of the tanker hoping to cause a devastating crash.
The collision set off the van’s airbags, shattered both the font and back windows and sparked an engine fire – with the mother and children trapped inside, WCJB reported.
Hackbarth and other stunned passersby rushed to save the family from the blaze – and managed to pull them out unharmed.

Police said in their arrest report the two boys were “very upset” and were taken into care by the Department of Children & Families.
Mack has been charged with three counts of first degree premeditated attempted homicide.
She is being held at the Alachua County Jail on a $900,000 (£740,000) bond.
