NATIONAL Geographic has racked up 100millon Instagram followers – and is celebrating with an awe-inspiring gallery of most-loved photos from around the globe.
With images depicting a curious polar bear making waves in ice-surrounded water, and a sweet snap of a boy carrying a little monkey on his head, it is not surprising that it’s become the first brand to reach 100m followers on the social platform.
What makes this achievement even more impressive is that it puts the organisation in the same league as Kim Kardashian, who has 128m Instagram followers, Beyonce, who boasts 124m, Taylor Swift’s 114m and close to Justin Bieber’s 104m.
National Geographic says 135 contributing photographers have shared nearly 20,000 photographs via @NatGeo, with each post detailing a stunning and intimate moment from their travels.
And a glance at its colourful Instagram account shows how people appreciate photographers sharing a “treasured moment” – which can take miles, months, and even many pairs of shoes to capture.
