Pixabay I love to travel, but honestly, lately it’s been a drag. Whether it’s a trip to Europe, or just an all-inclusive, I just can’t seem to escape douchebag tourists. You know the ones; they’re constantly drunk and obnoxious, but not in a fun way – in a destructive way. I get it, you’ll find these guys everywhere you go, and just gotta ignore, blah, blah, blah, but lately, some of these obnoxious tourists are making international headlines for douche moves. These guys should have their passports shredded.
Trip Advisor Riding a horse at Piazza Bodoni
Earlier this summer, an American tourist decided to take a selfie in an unusual place. He and his friends were at the Piazza Bodoni at around 1am one morning after drinking at a brewery, when he decided to climb the statue in the centre of the piazza. He made it up in one piece, but fell off the top while taking his picture, and fell directly on his head. He was rushed to the hospital for emergency brain surgery, and is presumably still there in intensive care.
Get Your Guide Stealing from the Auschwitz-Birkenau Camp
You can pretty much pick your idiot when it comes to this place. Plenty of tourists show disrespect here, but this guy takes the cake. One visitor, this past March, tried to steal a piece of the metal train tracks that lead to the camp. Many of the 1.1 million people that died inside the camp, were ferried in on these tracks to their death. He was caught and has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for “attempted theft of an item of cultural importance.” The tourist, in the meantime, didn’t think it was a big deal.
Source Slapping an immigration official at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport
A British tourist slapped an immigration official back in July 2018, after she missed her flight. But wait, it’s gets better. The reason she missed the flight, was that she was booked onto a flight from Indonesia to Singapore, when immigration officials found that she’d overstayed her visa by 160 days. Consequently, she had to pay a fine, which meant that she missed her flight. She got pissed, tried to snatch her passport back from the official and get her money back. When she was denied the refund (obviously), she slapped the guy.She was arrested and sentenced to 6 months in prison, appealing the entire way. Apparently, she hated the country and just wanted to leave. Go figure.
The whole thing was caught on
Daily Mail Deported British Family in New Zealand
Auckland, New Zealand
You probably heard of this one. A British family of 12 were on holiday in New Zealand, and they decided to terrorize the locals. Their behaviour was so reprehensible, it’s a wonder they were able to even get dressed and make it on a plane. Seriously, this family was a nightmare.Firstly, two of the kids were caught on camera stealing a christmas tree. When confronted, the dad offered an “oi, fight me mate” response. Then, they had several instances of dining and dashing, more theft, trashing their hotel rooms, letting their kids shit anywhere and everywhere they wanted, as well as taunting and assaulting the locals. The final straw was their campout on a public beach, where they littered, threw dirty baby wipes everywhere, and fought any that told them off. Finally, the New Zealand government revoked their visas and deported them back to whatever trailer they came from.
Wikipedia Denver Art Museum Vandalism
An 18-year-old male thought it’d be fun to trash 10 pieces of art at the museum. According to authorities, he wasn’t entirely all there, but regardless, some irreplaceable pieces were smashed to bits. Some of the pieces, including a 19th-century Quing vase and some pre-Columbian Mayan artifacts, were on loan to the museum for an exhibit, so it makes his freak out that much worse.
Youtube Sex on the Great Pyramid
I’ll admit, this would be a bucket list item for me too, but maybe, don’t film it. A Danish photographer released a NSFW photo of himself and a woman having sex on top of the pyramid. Now, there’s some debate on whether or not they’re actually fucking, or just posting, and if the photo is legitimate or doctored. In any case, he did also post a photo of the woman and himself scaling the pyramid, which is illegal too.The case is still being investigated, as well as an internal discussion was had on how they were able to get up there in the first place.
Twitter Knocking down a wall, for a selfie
At the International arts Centre Main Avenue, a group of women tried to take a selfie with a group of works by Francisco Goya and Salvador Dali, and ended up knocking the wall down. All the works were framed and behind glass, so both of those broke, damaging the canvases beneath. At the time, the Russian authorities refused to open a criminal case against the women.
CBC Spray painting a wall from the 13th Century
Last month, a Canadian tourist and her UK pal found a can of spray paint on the side of a road, while drunk. They figured it’d be fun to vandalize the nearest wall, which happened to be the Tha Pae Gate, a popular tourist attraction that dates back centuries. They were found within a week due to surveillance footage and jailed, with bail set at $6,000. While on bail, they are required to stay in the country until their trial is over, and face a decade in prison.According to the reports, neither of them think this is a big deal worth imprisonment. Not too bright, these tourists.
Flickr/jcw1967 Knocking over Brimham Rocks
North Yorkshire, England
A group of teens pushed a rock off a crag, that’s been that way for over a million years. Brimham Rocks is a National Trust site with a particular balancing rock that’s been shaped by eons of wind, rain and ice.The idiots, who weren’t identified or caught, caused considerable damage to both the rock and the crag face, and turned the area into a hazard for other tourists.
Southend Museum Damaged coffin for kid selfie
A family in the UK disregarded all museum protocols and common sense to place their baby inside an 800-year-old sandstone coffin for a selfie. The writhing child caused the coffin to fall off its stand and break. While the value of the damage isn’t all that much ($130 or so), it’s the sheer idiocy on display here by the family. You don’t touch museum artifacts for a fucking silly photo.
Instagram Shattered a mirror and closed a museum for 3 days
A woman visiting the “Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors” exhibit at the Hirshhorn Museum, decided to take a selfie and shattered a glass pumpkin, causing an estimated $800,000 worth of damage and forcing the museum to close. While I get that the exhibit is a trippy experience (I can attest to that), the woman in question was trying to get the perfect selfie, tripped and shattered it with her ass. That’s a no bueno.
Youtube A woman threw her glove at the Queen’s Guard
While it might seem like a joke to the rest of us, the Queen’s Guard and the Beefeaters have an important job to do, and we’re not to fuck with them. But this tourist though she’d try to get a rise out of one, by throwing her glove at him.An official came out and gave her a talking to, telling her that they were there to protect the Queen and the Royal Jewels and not there for her amusement. He also returned the glove, but the brain donor didn’t really think she did anything wrong.Really?
Youtube A selfie domino in an art gallery
Los Angeles, California
We’ve actually posted this cringe-worthy VIDEO last year, and it does get better with age. This accident took place at an art installation by Simon Birch at The 14th Factory in LA. It was a display of delicate crowns on pedestals. An identified woman crouched down to take a selfie in front of the art, and knocked over an entire column of pedestals, causing over $200,000 in damage.Hope they had insurance.
Pixabay Throwing a coin in an airplane engine for luck
This sounds like the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. I get superstition, but this woman went a little bonkers. An unnamed woman tossed 9 coins into an airplane’s engine for luck, causing the flight to be delayed. While the coins didn’t damage the engine, they could have if they hadn’t been seen and recovered.
Equinac/Facebook Selfie with a baby dolphin leads to its death
This one is truly heinous. Some tourists in southern Spain were seen crowding and taking photos with a baby dolphin, even going as far as taking it out of the water and holding it aloft. Animal rescue crews were dispatched 15 minutes after the animal was first spotted, but it was too late. The dolphin had died.Later, it was determined that some of the tourists were seen blocking the blowhole, as well as some animals can go into respiratory failure due to shock from crowding and anxiety. These guys are the worst.
Instagram Nude photos at a historic temple
Sorry for the image folks, but look at this. Seriously. These two guys had an entire Instagram (now deleted) dedicated to pics of their asses all over the world. What got them in trouble, finally, was this pic at the Bat Arun temple in Bangkok. After this photo went live, the tourists were detained, fined for public indecency and blacklisted from ever returning to the country.
Youtube Tourist purposely kicks and destroys a stalagmite
Guizhou Province, China
For some reason, a white-shirted man, who was a part of a group of tourists, took three kicks at a 20 inch stalagmite, and knocked it down. Authorities estimate that it took thousands of years to form this wonder of nature, and 5 mins for an idiot to knock it down, just because.
