Neville says his blood is boiling after watching Man Utd flops ‘pretending to run’ against Barcelona

GARY NEVILLE revealed his blood has been boiling since watching Manchester United’s flops “pretending to run” in their Champions League loss to Barcelona.

The Red Devils succumbed to a 4-0 aggregate defeat and now face a fight to secure top-four after an alarming run of five losses out of their last seven games.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer initially oversaw a remarkable turnaround after Jose Mourinho’s departure at Old Trafford by winning 14 of his 19 matches in charge.

However, since his permanent appointment, players at the club have been accused of lacking effort and the Norwegian himself warned his under-performing stars.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville said: “I’m simmering to be honest with you, my blood is about to boil.

“I didn’t buy into that these players were always fantastic so when they started winning for Ole for those two or three months – when you think about the game against Liverpool a few weeks ago and everything was perfect.

I saw players pretending to run back. Making it look like they were running back but jogging. It was rubbish!

“Ole had got the players playing again, Jose Mourinho was a bump and basically it was just all down to Jose.

“Now we are seeing what Ole talked about on Friday is that there has been a reality check, and I think it’s a reality check for all of us.

“I went to Barcelona on Wednesday night and watched the game and I saw players pretending to run back. Making it look like they were running back but jogging. It was rubbish!

“And I think what we are seeing now is where the players are. There is a lot of distraction around contracts and this is a big week.

“When Ole says that players need a reality check, we can see it with our own eyes what’s going on, we can smell it, and that’s why my blood’s boiling.”

One player who was roundly criticised against Barcelona was Ashley Young and the 33-year-old was dropped by Solskjaer for the trip to Everton on Sunday.

Young was slated for wasting possession after giving the ball away 30 times against Lionel Messi and co – meaning he lost possession once every three minutes on average.

And he also failed to complete a single cross from 11 attempts down the right wing so Diego Dalot was drafted into the side that looks to win at Goodison Park.
