NHS workers slam ‘disrespectful’ social media users

Health workers have slammed a ‘disrespectful’ woman for spreading ‘fiction and lies’ after she ‘sneaked into hospitals’ to take photos of ’empty corridors’.

Hannah Dean who describes herself as a freelance journalist, has travelled to hospitals across Hampshire to take social media photos and share baseless claims the NHS is ‘not under pressure’ and that people are ‘being isolated and controlled by the government’.

Her Facebook profile has shared photos claiming they were taken at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, as well as the Southampton General Hospital and inside St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester on 4th January – which have now been taken down.

The original captions explained that you can ‘walk straight in and out’ or the hospital, and that the ‘government is lying to us, and it’s very disturbing’.

Hampshire Constabulary has said they have fined a 30-year-old woman £200 after illegally taking and sharing photos inside the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.

Hannah has also shared a video which she claims was inside Farnborough Hospital on 2nd January showing empty corridors.

Mark Cubbon, chief executive at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, took to Twitter to say claims they were under-worked are fictional.

‘Saddened to see messages on social media suggesting our wards are empty and pressures we say we’re facing are fictional,’ he said.

‘We’re treating increasing number of patients with COVID-19.

‘Our staff are doing an incredible job under a great deal of pressure. Please don’t disrespect them,’ he wrote.

Meanwhile, NHS worker Alice Pallot took to Facebook to say ‘the stress, care, fight, trauma and burnout is happening behind the closed doors lining our empty corridors.’.

In an emotional plea on Facebook, the nurse who works for the Solent NHS Trust wrote: ‘I cannot begin to explain how it feels when the general public tear down the NHS after the battle we’ve endured this year.

‘People ‘sneaking’ into hospitals (our doors are always open if you actually need us FYI) to take pictures of empty corridors and claim we’re liars.

‘The stress, care, fight, trauma and burnout is happening behind the closed doors lining our empty corridors. Much like, behind the ever strong resolve of the NHS, exist individual people breaking under the strain.

‘This year is finally catching up with us all – I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m struggling. Mental health? Talk about it.

‘Be kind. Get your vaccines. You never know who’s life depends on your choices.

Sharing screenshots of the original post by Hannah, Alice also revealed the comment section of the pictures, which described workers as ‘lying b*******’, with one adding ‘they have never been under pressure. Lies, shame on the nurses, doctors, carers etc. Who are and were complicit. No excuse! Not money or job’.

Another wrote: ‘Sad so many NHS workers are wither f****** blind or complicit’.

Professor Partha Kar, a consultant at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, also shared Hannah’s post writing: ‘ Pictures of corridors where spare beds have been kept as wards are filling up.

‘Corridor in the basement where we wouldn’t have patients anyway @QAHospitalNews

‘PLEASE follow the rules.

‘Don’t disrespect the hard working staff.

In a statement released this week, Portsmouth Police said: ‘Some of you will have seen the reports of persons attending local hospitals, taking photos of parts of the hospital that are not on the frontline in the fight against Covid-19, and using the images to suggest are hospitals are not being stretched.

‘These actions have caused angst in the community, and have prompted a number of calls to us reporting the posts.

‘We have identified the source of the posts and have today issued a fixed penalty notice to the person responsible under the Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) Regulations 2020.

‘Our colleagues across the NHS are working flat out to fight this virus, and we are all grateful for their continued efforts.

‘There has been lots of publicity this weekend about us all doing our bit to stick to the rules and guidelines to support our NHS – we urge each and everyone of you to do the same.’

Hannah has since taken to Facebook to deny she’s been fined.

Writing in one post she said: ‘Hospital is the quietest I have ever seen it! I walked all over the hospital, including A&E!

‘I know this is hard to get our heads around, but the government are lying to us! And the reason why they’re lying to us….. is very disturbing!’

In other posts, she’s shared baseless theories about how people will be ‘forced’ to have coronavirus vaccines which will ’cause infertility and death’.
