Palace sign Sao Paulo goalkeeper Lucas Perri on loan after Julian Speroni’s nightmare at Liverpool

CRYSTAL PALACE have signed goalkeeper Lucas Perri on loan from Sao Paulo until the end of the season following Julian Speroni’s howler at Anfield.

The veteran shot-stopper played his first game in 13 months last week, where his calamitous error gifted Liverpool the lead against the Eagles.

Palace were forced to turn to the 39-year-old due to injuries picked up by both Wayne Hennessey and Vicente Guaita.

Roy Hodgson’s side have acted fast to sign a new man between the sticks, with the club having the option to turn Perri’s loan spell into a permanent deal.

Speaking the Palace’s website, Perri said of his move: “It’s an amazing feeling, I’m really glad to join the club.

“Two months ago, I knew [about] the possibility to join Palace. Since then, I was pretty anxious to be here because I really wanted that. It’s huge, it’s a really important thing to me.

“It’s the opportunity of my life and I’m going to do whatever it takes.”

Perri has featured for Brazil’s U-20 side, where he has appeared in the South American Under-20 Championship in 2015 and 2017.
