PEP GUARDIOLA insisted Manchester City winning the Community Shield in August was their first title of the season – not yesterday’s League Cup triumph.
In Guardiola’s eyes City did the cup final double against Chelsea yesterday after beating them on penalties to win the League Cup at Wembley.
Six months ago, at the same stadium, City beat Chelsea 2-0 in the seasons curtain raiser – as they won the Community Shield.
Speaking after City retained the League Cup – Guardiola was adamant his side won their second trophy of the season.
Guardiola said: “The league cup will not be our first trophy this season. We won the Community Shield.”
Fans on Twitter reacted to the quote as they suggested Guardiola was wrongly counting the Community Shield as a competitive trophy.
