Appearing to make a play for power, Gemma said: “Theresa if you’re watching this, good morning. We need to get the police back on our streets helping everybody out.

“I would be nice to be able to go up and talk to them, we haven’t got that anymore.

“Theresa needs to make a decision. I voted out. I would do it again.

“Theresa needs to lead our nation, take a deep breathe and make a deal. Let’s move forward. What’s she doing?

“She needs to take the lead and own it, then the people will follow.

“If you need some help hun, I’m free for an hour after the show.”

After listening to her views on Theresa’s leadership and the future of Brexit, Piers told Gemma: “I actually think you could do a better job of Prime Minister than Theresa May.”

Gemma added: “If you’re leading the country you’ve got to have some gumption.

“She needs to lead our country and go for it.”

Piers said he had faith in Gemma as leader

There will be a crunch Commons vote on Brexit alternatives today.

Deadlocked MPs are expected to be asked to vote on up to four different Brexit options in today’s second stage of ‘Indicative Votes’ – from a Norway-style Brexit to a second Referendum.

None of eight voted on last week won a majority – but large numbers of Tories abstained.

A Government spokesman insisted it remained “committed to delivering the Brexit deal – which does not include membership of the Customs Union”.
