Police released this image of James Dempsey who is believed to be with the missing baby
West Midlands Police has launched an appeal to find a missing five-month-old baby boy from Sutton Coldfield, in Birmingham.
Police believe the baby is with a James Dempsey who is known to the child’s mother and is thought to have been last spotted driving a Silver Vauxhall Astra on the A45 towards Coventry, just before 1am today.
Police urged those who are ‘out and about this evening’ to ‘keep their eyes peeled’ for Dempsey.
Reports on social media suggest that Dempsey is not the child’s father.
Extensive enquiries to try and find Dempsey and the baby have been on-going, but now officers are turning to the public for help to locate them both, said a statement from West Midlands Police.
Detective Chief Inspector Ian Ingram, from Force CID, who is leading the search, said: ‘I am concerned for the safety of this baby and am appealing for help to find him.
‘His family are anxious and worried about the baby boy and just want him home safe and well.
‘I am appealing directly to James to contact us or the baby’s family so we can arrange for him to be reunited with his mother – or to take the baby to a place of safety, such as a hospital.’
The Chief Inspector added that the pair could still be in the Birmingham area but urged people across the country to ‘please keep your eyes peeled for Dempsey.’
‘If you’re on social media, please share our appeal so that it is seen far and wide because it’s our best chance to locate the baby and to ensure he is safe,’ added DCI Ingram.
