Yuli Gurriel and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. have made sibling history, becoming the first brothers to each hit multiple home runs on the same day, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
Lourdes Gurriel, a rookie infielder for the Toronto Blue Jays, hit solo shots in his first two plate appearances in Toronto, accounting for two-thirds of the Jays’ offense in an 11-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.
Yuli Gurriel, a third-year infielder for the Houston Astros, also homered in his first two plate appearances, but he had the decidedly more productive day. He blasted a first-inning grand slam and adding a two-run shot in the third inning.
Yuli Gurriel tacked on another RBI with a fifth-inning single before letting his teammates take over, as the Astros clinched a postseason berth in an 11-3 rout over the Los Angeles Angels.
The brothers were stars in Cuban baseball before defecting to the U.S. in 2016.
