On the list of words never to utter in the presence of a pregnant lady, ‘fat’ probably comes pretty close to the top.
However, when a well-wisher known only as ‘Peggy’ called the Duchess of Sussex, who’s six months’ pregnant ‘a fat lady’ during her visit to an animal charity today, Meghan took the remark in entirely the right spirit.
Indeed, the Duchess appeared to dissolve into fits of giggles – as did those around her – after she heard the remark that was surely well intended.

Just two days ago, the Duchess of Sussex made a sartorial statement in a bright red and purple ensemble. Today, she took a more subtle – yet equally captivating – approach in a cream-coloured look.
While Meghan recycled an old Armani wool coat, the rest of her outfit was new: an H&M knitted dress, the coveted Stella McCartney ‘Falabella’ bag and matching heels.
We were especially pleased to see the Duchess donning a high street label, so that is what we have to talk about! Hailing from the brand’s MAMA line, her fine knit featured a stand-up collar and softly-gathered side seams for snug fit that hugged her growing bump just beautifully.
The great thing about this dress is it’s available to purchase immediately! So don’t wait around; click (right) to make it yours.

In footage of the meeting, the two women chat as Meghan tours The Mayhew Animal Home.
During their light-hearted conversation, the lady tells the 37-year-old: ‘What a lovely lady you are. The good lord always blesses you.’
Meghan politely replies: ‘Thank you’
Raising the intonation in her voice, Peggy then says: ‘And you’re a fat lady!’
Far from being offended by the comment, Meghan is heard letting out a shriek of laughter, before she opens her coat slightly and adds: ‘I’ll take it’.
The new-found friends sat together later as they admired a rescue dog.
Meghan wore an old Armani coat worth an estimated £2,000 for her second public engagement of the week. The animal lover paired the custom coat with a Stella McCartney bag and £24.99 polo neck dress from high street store H&M’s maternity range.

Meghan finished off her nude ensemble with a pair of towering suede slingbacks – just two days after she joked that she was navigating walking in heels with her bump ‘one day at a time’.
She is there to meet staff, volunteers and beneficiaries, and hear more about the charity’s various initiatives, from community engagement to international projects.
During her visit today, Meghan will see first-hand a number of projects run by the charity, designed to improve the lives of animals and people and to better communities both in London and internationally.
