NO ONE expected Vinnie Jones to return to work so soon after the death of his wife Tanya last month.
Clearly that includes the action-man movie star’s rivals in the first series of Celebrity X Factor.
Vinnie’s wife Tanya passed away last month at the age of 53[/caption]
They have been quietly moaning that, in the absence of the Gone In 60 Seconds actor, they would have had easier runs through the contest.
But producers have told the ex-Wimbledon and Wales midfielder he is still in the competition despite missing the Bootcamp stage in LA.
A source on the ITV show said: “Producers have been giving Vinnie all the time and space he needs after his awful news.
“He said he still wanted to be in the show but that the Bootcamp phase was too soon.
Vinnie’s free pass to the next round of Celebrity X Factor has not gone down well with his rivals[/caption]

“So they are jiggling the format a bit but it has upset a few of the contestants, who left Los Angeles thinking they were going to have a better chance of victory.
“It’s a bit insensitive of them, given what Vinnie’s going through.”
Tanya died last month, aged 53, after a long battle with cancer.
She had been married to Vinnie since 1994.
The pair renewed their wedding vows 13 years after their wedding day[/caption]
In the days after her death, I told how Vinnie had met up with X Factor production staff and fellow competitors despite concern he would pull out.
A show source insisted: “His involvement will not affect anyone else. Producers are doing everything they can to make sure he is supported after his sad news.”
Fair play to him for taking part at all. I’d be a mess if I was in his situation.

Mel B girl does not dig TV test
MEL B’s daughter Phoenix refused to kip in her mum’s old digs during filming for Channel 4’s Born Famous.
The show follows children of celebrities as they spend a week in their parents’ former haunts. They try to experience what life might have been like if the parents had not became stars.
Mel B’s daughter Phoenix has been sent for a reality check on Channel 4 show Born Famous[/caption]
Phoenix, 20, was challenged to sleep in Scary Spice’s old room in the Hyde Park area of inner-city Leeds. But after becoming overcome with emotion, she decided to sleep “somewhere else”.
In Monday night’s show, she says: “This is really scary and emotional. I am feeling scared. This was what my mum was before me, Spice Girls, and before any of the fame and money. This was her reality.
“I think I am going to have to take a little break and sleep somewhere else. I want to be who I am, somewhere else.”
But Mel is none too impressed by her daughter’s diva antics.

The singer said: “She is carefree in La La Land.
“Does she know anything other than living this kind of life – cars, money and bling?
“She is very privileged, so I am just hoping that part gets squashed out of her and she gets a reality check on so many different levels.”

Gemma’s with Mr ice guy
I THOUGHT we had got rid of Gemma Collins from Dancing On Ice after she literally crashed out of the last series – but I can reveal she is set to return.
The reality star’s boyfriend James Argent has signed up to the next series and she will no doubt hog the limelight.

A source said: “Arg saw what it did to Gemma’s profile and is hoping it can have the same effect. She also lost two-and-a-half stone so Arg wouldn’t mind slimming down.
“He knows Gemma will be front and centre in the studio and probably getting just as much camera time.”
I revealed last week that Love Island winner Amber Gill was the first contestant to sign up for the Sunday night show after impressing ITV execs. She doesn’t need to worry about the competition yet.
It’s tab fab at Anne’s
NON-smokers get short shrift at Anne Robinson’s gaff.
The Weakest Link host has revealed she is quite happy for guests to spark up at her dinner table.

She said: “I don’t mind if they smoke. I don’t give dinner parties but if friends are at my house and they smoke, I say to people who object: ‘Go outside if you don’t like smoke’.”
The no-nonsense telly presenter did, however, reveal that one thing is banned at her table – looking at mobile phones.
Anne told tech podcast Soda Says: “I can’t think of anyone brave enough to have a phone at the table. It’s like having the television on when people visit.”
