PICK the perfect wine to perk up a grown-up picnic basket for a weekend al fresco without blowing your budget.

Cheers…a tasty tipple will add sparkle to any day out[/caption]

Wine expert Matt Day, from free wine recommendation app Corkscrew, says nailing a bottle of bubbly is key — but you don’t need to fork out for pricey fizz.

He says: “You don’t need anything expensive and you certainly don’t want mature wines.

“Fun in the sun requires young, fresh, vibrant fruit-driven wines.”

Here, Matt reveals his five top wines under £7 to sip alongside your spread:

On a sweltering day, what could be better than a fresh and fruity wine in the hamper?[/caption]

1 — Bring in the bubbly. There is nothing worse than lukewarm fizz, so make sure you keep the bottle well iced by taking a cool bag and filling it with ice cubes or cool blocks. Rich, sparkling wines are great with smoked salmon, creamy cheeses like brie and cold chicken.

Budget buy: Seaview Chardonnay Pinot Noir NV (£6.99, Lidl) is an Australian sparkling wine made from the same Chardonnay and Pinot Noir used for pricey Champagne.

2 — Fresh and fierce whites. Summer whites need to be fresh with zippy acidity. Perfect with goats’ cheese, quiches and mildly spicy foods like coronation chicken.

Budget buy: Fiano di Benevento 2017 (£6.99, Co-op stores) from the up-and-coming region of Campania in south Italy is laser sharp with fierce lemon and grapefruit notes.

Morrisons is offering this light and fruity Beaujolais for just a fiver

3 — Fruity rosés. Rosé wines are in fact very light red wines. And they work with stronger foods like chorizo, pork pies and roasted red peppers.

Budget buy: Exquisite Sud de France Rosé (£5.99, Aldi) is a really fresh and fruity rosé from Languedoc-Roussillon in southern France, made from juicy Grenache and Shiraz grapes.

4 — Light, lush red. Big, rich red wines taste bitter and chalky served cold and served warm and soupy on a hot summer’s day are vile. But Beaujolais from eastern France is great from the fridge and goes well with cold roast beef, coarse pâté and hard cheeses such as cheddar.

Budget buy: Beaujolais 2017 (£5, Morrisons) is a lush fruit bomb.

Brilliant bubbly for less than £7 – that’s a winner

5 — Sweet taste. Sweet food and dry wines just don’t work. Lighter than air, sweet wine is the perfect accompaniment to most summer desserts including strawberries and cream, meringues, chocolate mousse and even ice cream.

Budget buy: Vistamar Late Harvest Moscatel 2016 (£6.99, or reduced to £5.49 when you show the Corkscrew app in Majestic stores) from Chile is a deliciously sweet wine with flavours of apricots, peaches and honey.
