Police closed the road and the five injured people were rushed to hospital for treatment after the crash which took place in Whisby Road, Lincoln, at about 10pm last night.

It is understood the car meet was being held in memory of 36-year-old Damian Buckle who died last week in a motorbike crash, according to the Sun.

The crash involved two cars – one which was parked – which hit the pedestrians before the driver of the speeding car drove off and ended up in a ditch at a second scene.

‘We would also like to hear from anyone who was in the area that evening, and witnessed the incident, the gathering, or has dashcam or mobile phone footage of the incident itself.

‘We have been on scene since just after 10.15pm last night, and will remain in the area during today as we carry out our initial enquiries.’

Police, EMAS, fire crews, the air ambulance, and the Coast Guard helicopter all attended and the stretch of road was closed until around 8.30am this morning.

The event was being held in memory of father-of-two Damian Buckle who died after his motorbike was involved in a crash with a van on the A46 last Friday, August 13.

Friends and family organised the event as a mark of respect and gathered near a business park where they set off fireworks.

Eyewitness Shakira Hensby described how she was clipped in the face by a wing mirror.

She posted: ‘What a night tonight has been, leaving the majority of people shook up and hurt in some way.

‘It all happened so slow – but so fast. I’ll probably have a nice bruise on my face from getting hit with a wing mirror – but I’d rather that than anything else.

‘My thoughts go out to everyone involved. Maybe people will learn to stop driving like absolute idiots as sadly this is the outcome.’
