Feeling the rush of relief as you sink into the last remaining seat on a crowded train will be a familiar feeling for most commuters.
But if you’re concerned about even them most basic of hygiene standards it may be better to stand.
One traveller took it upon themselves to demonstrate the amount of dust stored in the seats of one train in Sydney.
Using his fist to whack the seat he continues to hit the material until it starts to spew out a dirty cloud of dust.
He filmed the disturbing demonstration, later posting it to the website Reddit with the caption: ‘They really need to vacuum these train seats.’

Many Redditors shared how disgusted they were by the conditions of a seat used by thousands of Australians each day.
‘I dislike placing my butt on those seats, let alone my bare hands… I admire your bravery,’ one commented said.
Another commenter joked, ‘Enjoy your chest infection.’
‘Say hello to your new dust mite pals,’ one person said.
One commenter said that Sydney buses also have the same problem.
‘Do the same thing to the bus seats and you’ll see it too. Not just limited to the trains, but buses too.’
Daily Mail Australia contacted Transport NSW for comment.
