Opening up to the Mirror, Si showed his soft side and admitted:

“If you’d have asked five years ago would I have one now, I’d be thinking, ‘I might have left it a bit late’.

“But once you’ve had one you think, how could you imagine him not being here?

He went on to say: “I never thought I could think this way, but you just go, it would be unthinkable to think he wasn’t here.

“I can’t really think about life before Eric.”

Before concluding he would “consider another child.”

Simon welcomed his firstborn with his partner Lauren Silverman in February 2014.

And the proud pa even went so far as to say that Eric has not only changed his personal life, but his professional life too.

He now looks to his four-year-old son for guidance in his role as TV judge.

Simon said that he watches Eric as they make the show and:

“If he switches off I’m thinking, ‘Maybe that is boring.’ I’m being serious.”

And so comfortable is the music boss in his role as dad that he doled out fatherly advice to his One Direction prodigy and now fellow X Factor judge Louis Tomlinson.

He revealed that when Louis’ ex Briana Jungwirth became pregnant in 2016, he told him:

“All I can tell you is you embrace it and you deal with it as a guy, and it will be the best thing that’s ever happened to you.’

“It’s as simple as that. You have no idea what to expect.

“I was laughing with someone last night about Eric. I said, it’s not as complicated as you think, they get you and you get them.”

X Factor continues on Saturday at 8.35pm on ITV.
