A MANIAC who snatched little Alesha MacPhail from her bed before raping and murdering her has today been unmasked as a Slender Man-obsessed gamer.
Baby-faced Aaron Campbell, 16, can be named for the first time after a judge lifted reporting restrictions protecting his identity.
The Scottish Sun and fellow media organisations successfully challenged the order, which was put in place due to his age.
Sadistic Campbell can now be revealed as a cat-skinning monster desperate for fame on YouTube with a warped interest in gory video games.
The coward tried worming his way out of his horrific crime by spinning a twisted web of lies in an attempt to pin it on Toni McLachlan – the girlfriend of Alesha’s dad.
But the fiend was caught out and was yesterday convicted of abducting, raping and murdering Alesha on July 2 last year.
The “evil” monster is facing life in prison – with investigators now revealing their fears he was a serial killer in the making who would have struck again.
PROFILE OF A KILLER
A chilling profile of Campbell shows he was a Slender Man-obsessed teenager with a warped fixation of “gore and violence”.
The depraved teenager was said to be “hooked” on the creepy fictional character as he worked on a haunting plan to turn his “fantasy into a horrific reality”.
And in a sinister echo of Campbell’s real-life crime, Slender Man kidnaps and traumatises youngsters.
A source said: “He’s an utterly warped individual and we’ve stopped a serial killer in his tracks.
“Slender Man searches were found and, when it was Googled, it chilled seasoned investigators to the bone.
“Some of the circumstances between what this character does and what happened to Alesha were carbon copies.”
Fanatic Campbell would lock himself away in his room playing Fortnite as he chased fame as a YouTube gamer.
But as his obsession with video games grew and consumed his life, so too did a morbid curiosity for bloodlust.
Horrified locals claim Campbell tortured two moggies on Bute three years ago — sparking fears the slayings eventually built up to murdering little Alesha.
One pal told The Scottish Sun: “He was supposedly doing voodoo stuff. I was worried when I heard.
“I never asked him about it. I just thought it was weird. But now I could believe it.”
OBSESSION WITH BLOODLUST
Cops probing Alesha’s gruesome death last year discovered harrowing details of the teenager’s obsession with the macabre.
In chilling commentary posted on a video game, Campbell sounds petrified as his character walks through a creepy house shrouded in darkness.
He picks up a key from a table and uses it to unlock a door with blood streaming over it in the shape of an X.
In one blood-spattered sequence, he blurts out “stab” and “shank” before creeping deeper into the dark abyss.
Campbell – then aged 12 – finds himself in an eerie room with what appears to be a ouija board daubed on the floor and graffiti scrawled on the walls.
He says: “This is hell. No, no, no, Stop. Help, help, help. That is Slender Man right there.”
In one game, Campbell’s character skulks through the corridor of an empty family home before raiding a child’s room with a teddy bear sitting on the bed.
Years later, the scene would become a screaming reality for Campbell, who entered Alesha’s grandparents’ home armed with a knife after a drunken house party last summer.
CHILLING ECHO OF MURDER
The twisted teenager took sleeping Alesha from her bed, with CCTV showing a “shadowy figure” carrying an object – believed to be the youngster – along the shoreline.
Once at the site of a former hotel, Campbell removed the girl’s clothes and shook her “violently” as he covered her nose, mouth and neck with his hands.
Alesha, who was just 3ft 9ins tall, suffered 117 injuries and died from “forceful pressure to her neck and face”.
Horrifically, she suffered “catastrophic” sexual injuries both before and after her death after the teenager “brutalised” her.
“Billion-to-one” DNA samples matching the boy were found on 14 different parts of Alesha’s body – including intimate areas and her neck, face and ankles – and her clothing.
Alesha’s mutilated and naked body was found in woods on the Isle of Bute hours later after her devastated family woke up to find she was missing.
MUM’S CALL TO COPS
It wasn’t the first time Campbell had struck though – with some locals claiming he once sexually abused a teenage girl before showing off explicit pictures to pals.
Residents living on the Isle of Bute have claimed the cannabis-smoking teenager was known for his troubling behaviour even before the killing.
Locals claim he held a little girl’s head under the water at a local swimming pool for so long she feared she would drown.
Despite Campbell’s love for the grotesque, some still can’t believe the well-spoken schoolboy was building up to the “one of the wickedest and most evil crimes”.
Among those is his girlfriend, who is apparently standing by Campbell despite the horrors he carried out.
But his mum actually shopped her son to cops when she caught him on CCTV disappearing the night Alesha vanished.
The mum, who can’t be named, said she was urged to check footage last July 2 by the aunt of Toni McLachlan, who is just two years older than Campbell.
She said: “He went out about 1.57am and he came back around 3am, so he was out for a good hour.
“When he got home, he stripped off, left all of his clothes at his backside in the bathroom and then he went out again in shorts.
“My heart dropped a bit when I saw that. I thought, ‘Where’s he going?’.”
She grilled her evil son on his mystery outings and eventually spoke to police to eliminate him from
The mum recalled how the computer games fanatic didn’t seem fazed and “shrugged it off like he didn’t care”.
Even after he was interviewed by cops over the horrendous murder, calm Campbell ate spaghetti bolognese before retiring to his room to play video games.
It was only after he was charged that the mask slipped and Campbell showed a flicker of emotion for the wicked crime he had committed.
The mum said: “That’s when he was crying. He said to me, ‘I don’t know why this is happening to me, mum.
“I’m doing really well at school, all my friends, I’m in a relationship, I’m in a happy place at the moment. Why is this happening to me?’.”
BRIGHT WITH NO FUTURE
As the killer was remanded in custody, he discovered his passed his exams – bagging As for maths and physics.
A bright boy, he dreamed of studying engineering at uni and designing computer games for a living due to his “addiction” to gaming.
Instead – for reasons that have never be revealed – he “stole the life” from an angelic, innocent six-year-old girl he had never even met before.
Little Alesha was just at the start of her summer holidays and had fallen asleep watching a Peppa Pig DVD.
She was tucked in by dad Robert, who told her he’d “see her in the morning” as he left her room.
Tragically, he never saw his daughter alive again.
