The world’s top-rated racehorse has done it again, winning her 28th race in a row.
Winx competed at the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington, in Melbourne on Saturday, extending her historic unbeaten streak after jockey Hugh Bowman rode her to victory.
A mystery gambler is very relieved after putting $170,000 on the champion thoroughbred, the most anyone has ever put on the seven-year-old mare.
The odds of $1.16 meant the punter risked the enormous amount for the chance to win $26,200.
Her phenomenon continues, as the narrow triumph was the horse’s 21st group 1 victory.
In her first Melbourne appearance for the year, Winx charged past Youngstar by just one length after a strong finish down the Flemington straight.
Sitting second from the back for the majority of the 2000 metre race, Winx had her work cut out for her, giving the leaders an eight-length start.
Navigating a path between the leading horses, Winx stormed home in a late surge down the end of the Flemington straight.
More to come.
