THE person of interest in Miya Marcano’s death, Armando Manuel Caballero, should not have worked in her building, her family said.
Cops named Caballero, a maintenance worker at the apartment complex where Miya lived and worked, a person of interest before he was found dead from an apparent suicide in a Seminole County apartment complex.
Her family said through a statement from their attorney on Sunday that they believe her death was “preventable.”
“We want to stress that we believe that her disappearance and consequential death was 100% preventable and we intend to hold those responsible accountable to the full extent of the law,” the statement says.
Remains that authorities believe belong to Miya were found in a wooded area at Tymber Skan apartments, 17 miles West of Arden Villas apartments in Orlando, where she lived and worked.
The 19-year-old Valencia College sophomore was last seen at around 5pm on September 24.
Though positive identification has yet to be made, a purse containing Miya’s ID was found near her body.
Speaking to The Sun, Miya’s cousin, Caili Sue, had addressed Miya: “We’re here in large numbers, searching for her everywhere – high, low, and in the bushes.”
Sue said Caballero was “obsessed” and “infatuated” with her cousin.
Caballero was “constantly texting her,” Caili Sue reports, despite Miya making clear she wasn’t romantically interested in him.
