This probably will come as no surprise, but I love watching movies. And living in Austin has honestly been the best place I’ve watched movies, mostly because of theaters like Alamo Drafthouse or Violet Crown that serve food and drinks, and generally screening cool/weird movies that no one else is.
But Switzerland might have landed on a new concept that takes the theater experience to a whole new level.
Via Pathé Schweiz Facebook Near the Swiss-German border in Spreitenbach, welcome to Cinema Pathé, and it should become immediately clear what the hook of this new theater is: Instead of comfy recliners, they’ve replaced the seats with beds, 11 of them to be precise (and I feel I have to, because we’re talking about the Swiss after all).
Via Pathé Schweiz Facebook The tickets are a bit steep, depending on what you’re going for. VIP tickets cost 49 francs, which is roughly $48,50, but that comes with free food and a drink. But regular tickets are 19.50 francs, roughly $19, and honestly, I can’t imagine the free food is worth all of that.
Though, they apparently offer slippers for your VIP experience, which is one of those over-the-top touches you just can’t make up.
Via Pathé Schweiz Facebook But the bed theater isn’t the only thing they offer. They also offer a theater that’s just made up entirely double couches, and they do have a normal IMAX theater.
Via Pathé Schweiz Facebook And this kid’s theater is pretty fucking fantastic for kids, including a slide if the kids don’t want to use the stairs (and normally I’d say something like “They should add a slide for adults,” but that hasn’t gone super well for some of the folks at The Chive HQ, so maybe not).
Via Pathé Schweiz Facebook Now, I know what you’re thinking, specifically about the beds: How fucking gross are those beds?
The CEO of Pathé Switzerland, Venanzio Di Bacco, has insisted that
“The hygiene aspect is very important to us,” because they apparently change the sheets between every single screening. And they fucking better, because every person on Earth had the same thought about the whole concept:

Via Bored Panda I’m not going to lie, I’d try this out at least once, but beyond that… Good luck to this theater. It just opened recently, so it needs all the luck it can get.
In the meanwhile, I’ll just enjoy the fact that in the next month, I can literally go and watch Jaws in the middle of a waterpark in the dead of night while underwater divers fuck with the audience members:
Via Rolling Roadshow Facebook (Seriously, if you enjoy movies, get to Austin, it’s one of the best places I’ve ever lived for seeing movies, and the “Jaws on the Water” event has been going on for a couple years now, I’m finally getting the opportunity to go this year and I’m psyched about it.)
