The truth behind Scott Cam’s real name: The Block host reveals his sad story

It recently came to light that his full surname is Caminetti, not Scott Cam like many of his fans thought.

And now the lovable Block host has revealed the heartbreaking reason why his last name was shortened.

Speaking to Beau Ryan and Kyle Sandilands during KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie ‘O’ Show on Monday, the 55-year-old said his family changed their surname during the war in fear of being discriminated against because of their Italian heritage.

‘My father’s side was Italian, they came here in 1882. They’ve been here for five to six generations and the name was changed during the war, because we’re fisherman,’ the carpenter-turned-TV presenter explained.

‘Cause the Italians were you know, the enemy during the war so they changed the name of the business to “Cam and Sons” from “Caminetti and Sons.”‘

‘I didn’t change it, it was changed before I was born,’ he added.
