The Springboks are nominated in the Team of the Year category at the World Rugby Awards today after defeating England in the final yesterday.
Captain Siya Kolisi held the trophy today as his teammates grouped around him smiling at the lavish ceremony, where the Lions have just one nomination.

Tom Curry is up for Player of the Year, but the champions have seen Pieter-Steph du Toit as well as Cheslin Kolbe selected for the category. And South Africa’s Herschel Jantjies is in the running for the Breakthrough Player of the Year award.
The triumphant team were revelling in their 32-12 victory yesterday as some of their players posing in just towels and their briefs while holding the trophy.

England lost the Rugby World Cup final after a crushing collapse against South Africa in Yokohama, Japan. In a tense and scrappy contest, dominated by penalties, South Africa went up by nine points before England captain Owen Farrell cut the deficit to six.
However, an England fightback failed to materialise with two late South African tries seeing the rampant Springboks crush Farrell’s men by 20 points.

The nominees for World Rugby Women’s 15s Player of the Year are: Sarah Bern (England), Pauline Bourdon (France), Kendra Cocksedge (New Zealand), Katy Daley-Mclean (England) and Emily Scarratt (England).

Shortlists are determined by the World Rugby Awards panels, with World Cup winners Richie McCaw, John Smit, George Gregan, Maggie Alphonsi and Melodie Robinson all sitting.
Fiona Coghlan, Brian O’Driscoll, Fabien Galthié, Agustín Pichot and Seilala Mapusua join them as panel members at this year’s ceremony.
World Cup winners Melodie Robinson and Danielle Waterman are on the women’s panel alongside World Rugby Hall of Fame inductee Liza Burgess, Lynne Cantwell, Fiona Coghlan, Gaëlle Mignot, Jillion Potter, Karl Te Nana and journalist Stephen Jones.
Players are also able to vote to determine who is nominated for the awards, which World Rugby Chairmain Sir Bill Beaumont described as ‘the ultimate accolade for test players’.
