A THIEF stole a car with a young boy in the back seat after his mum left it defrosting on the driveway in a broad daylight car jack horror.
The terrified mum attempted to chase after the motor after it was snatched in Solihull but fell over and couldn’t catch him.
Thankfully she was reunited with her son after the thief dumped the car at a nearby road when he realised the boy was in the back seat.
Cops said the mum and boy were not injured in the horror at 8am on Tuesday.
A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and has been released on bail.
West Midlands Police are now warning motorists not to leave their car unattended while the engine is running.
A spokesperson had said: ‘Today saw the first really icy morning of the winter, and with it came the inevitable theft of cars that were being defrosted while the drivers went back inside the house. One even had a child in the back.
“Fortunately as soon as the thief realised this he abandoned the vehicle and the child was safe.
“Never leave your vehicle unattended with the engine running for any reason. If you do, you run the risk of it being stolen and your insurance won’t be valid.
