Trump eyes Vladimir Putin and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman as he joins ‘family’ photo

President Donald Trump eyed Russian President Vladimir Putin and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman as he joined world leaders for their ‘family’ photo at the G20 summit here but didn’t talk with his fellow leaders.

Trump cancelled his meeting with Putin here and said he’d be willing to talk with the prince if it was on his schedule – yet he didn’t make conversation with either man as he walked past them to get in place for a photo.

The ‘family photo’ – the time when all the G20 leaders gather on stage for a group picture – featured all the leaders on stage together in the Costa Salguero Centre.

Trump stood between French President Emanuel Macron and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for the event, which lasted about five minutes.

The president was one of the last leaders to come on stage to take his spot in the lineup.

He walked past MBS – the Saudi crown prince is known by his initials –  and Putin without stopping to chat or shake hands.

Trump did chat and shake hands with Abe, with whom he has a close relationship.

Before the family photo, each leader came out one by one to shake hands with Argentina President Mauricio Macri – the host leader – and get a photo with him.

Then they all returned to the stage for the group picture.

After the ‘family’ photo, the leaders moved into a separate room for lunch, where they all sat around a round table, each of them with screens and microphones in front of them.

Flags lined the wall in the back and desks were set up behind the leaders for other top officials. Secretary of State Pompeo sat behind the president.

Trump sat two seats away from President Macri with British Prime Minister Theresa May to his left and a German official, sitting in for a missing Chancellor Angela Merkel, to his right. (Merkel’s arrival was delayed by plane trouble but she is in route to Argentina).

Trump chatted with May while the leaders gathered.

Around the table, Putin and MBS were seated next to each other and they gave each other a friendly hand slap.
