Two police officers stabbed with screwdriver in North London street attack

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after stabbing a police officer in the head with a screwdriver in North London.

A second officer was stabbed in the arm when cops confronted the suspected burglar in Barnet.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: “Police were called at approximately 16:45hrs on Wednesday, 24 October to reports of a burglary.

“Whilst en route, officers were approached by a member of the public who stated they had seen a man acting suspiciously and carrying a screwdriver on Lawrence Gardens, NW7.

“Officers attempted to speak with this man.

“Two officers were assaulted by the suspect. One officer sustained head injuries and the other injuries to his arm caused by the screwdriver.

“The officers have been taken by the London Ambulance Service to a north London hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not life-threatening.

“The man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and taken to a north London police where he remains in custody.”
