Two trains are evacuated in Barcelona as police search for bombs

Two trains have been evacuated in Barcelona’s main station over a bomb scare.

Security guards raised the alarm when they found a suspicious suitcase at 8am local time. 

The circulation of high-speed AVE trains has been halted and travellers prevented from accessing the AVE area at Barcelona-Sants station.

Catalan police tweeted: ‘We are making checks on the high speed train lines of the Sants de Barcelona station following a security protocol. Two trains on tracks 3 and 4 have been evacuated. [Bomb squad] TEDAX activate.’

Another tweet added: ‘We were alerted about 8am. Security from rail infrastructure operator Adif have seen an object with the shape of a possible explosive artefact inside a suitcase on a scanner. Checks are continuing.’
