UK property: two-bedroom floating house on River Thames in Hampton goes on sale for £375,000

A two-bedroom floating house on the River Thames has gone on sale for £375,000 complete with a roof terrace, garden and a 20-year mooring licence.

The home on the edge of Royal Park in Hampton, near Twickenham, boasts a modern interior with a U-shaped kitchen and breakfast bar, two large bedrooms and a living room with patio doors that open onto the deck.

It also features a land-on garden, as well as a roof terrace on the entire top section of the boat, providing plenty of outdoor space. There’s also a family bathroom with a jacuzzi bathtub.

Taggs Island, where the houseboat is located, has just over 100 residents and around 60 houseboats fixed to piles embedded into the riverbed of the Thames – with some 40 on the shoreline and around 20 in the central lagoon.

The tiny island is a short distance from Hampton Court train station, close to Hampton Court Palace and Royal Bushy Park.

Houses are not permitted to be built on Taggs Island, but each houseboat has a small garden, with vehicle access by a road bridge near Hampton Court Palace.

During the first nationwide lockdown, residents of the island put up signs discouraging tourists and members of the public from exercising there.

In its description of the area, estate agents Samuel Jones said: ‘Taggs Island is one of the few Thames islands to have the luxury of car access from Hampton Bank and it is a short walk to Hampton Court train station.
