CNN anchor Don Lemon believes the electoral college should be scrapped to get Americans a voice in who is elected president and sits on the Supreme Court.
Lemon said Americans need to “blow up the entire system,” and that if Joe Biden wins the 2020 election – Democrats can “stack the courts” to do so.
The comments came during Lemon’s handoff to colleague Chris Cuomo, who suggested that a better way for Americans to have their voices heard is get out and vote.
However, Lemon responded that the electoral college would have to go, “because the minority in this country get to decide who our judges are and who our president is. Is that fair?”
“You need a constitutional amendment to do that,” Cuomo replied.
“And if Joe Biden wins, Democrats can stack the courts and they can do that amendment and get it passed,” Lemon said.
Lemon’s comments about “blowing up the system” come days after several Democratic lawmakers threatened to pack the courts if Biden wins the 2020 election.
“Packing the court” is a term that was coined by President Franklin D Roosevelt that referred to a bill aiming to reform the number of Supreme Court justices in an effort to obtain approval for the New Deal.
The bill would have granted the president power to appoint an additional justice to the Supreme Court for every member over the age of 70 and six months.
