WATFORD midfielder Tom Cleverley is set to miss the start of the Premier League season following surgery on his Achilles.
The former Manchester United ace, 28, is hoping to make his return to first-team action in autumn – missing just “the early weeks”.
Cleverley has struggled with the injury his whole career and is now willing to take some time out in order to put it right.
On the surgery, Cleverley revealed: “This is something I’ve put up with during my career, so it’s good to get it sorted.
“I had been used to playing with pain in my ankle… now that’s going to be a thing of the past.
“I’ll be fit and raring to win my place back once I’ve finished my rehab.”
Cleverley joined Watford from Everton last summer after making his loan spell permanent.
The 13-cap England international made 23 Premier League appearances last summer, scoring once, as the Hornets finished 14th.
Meanwhile, Watford have left rival fans green with envy after handing out free shirts to supporters who went to all 19 Premier League away games last year.
The Hornets celebrated the release of their second strip by rewarding loyal punters with new tops.
